Class Activities and Assignments :

 

Monday, APril 1, 2019:  Students took notes over introductory information about existentialism and absurdism as part of the pre-reading work for a study of Albert Camus' The Stranger

 

Tuesday, APril 2, 2019:  Students read an abbreviated selection of Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus" and discussed strategies and methods to employ when writing a timed poetry analysis essay.  As homework, students are to finish any reading of the Camus essay, and prepare for a timed essay task that will take place in class tomorrow.

 

Wednesday, APril 3, 2019:  Students completed a timed poetry analysis task in class.  As homework, students are to complete assigned work on their anticipation guide for The Stranger.

 

Thursday, APril 4, 2019:  Students turned in their anticipation guide work and then completed a two-passage AP exam multiple-choice question practice. Students received copies of The Stranger and with time remaining in class, began reading Chapter 1. Students are to have the first chapter fully read by the time they return to class tomorrow.

 

Friday, APril 5, 2019:  Students reviewed the text, questions, and correct answers to yesterday's multiple-choice practice, briefly discussed the first chapter of The Stranger, and some classes had time to begin reading chapter 2.  As homework, all students need to carefully read through chapters 1 & 2 of The Stranger.

 

Monday, APril 8, 2019:  Students received a practice prompt and prose passage which they reviewed in class.  They created a writing plan and the teacher reviewed ways to craft solid analysis, as well as easy ways to begin a prose analysis essay.  The class then turned its attention to The Stranger, discussing Chapters 1-2 and then reading Chapter 3.  As homework, students are to read any remaining pages from Chapter 3 as well as all pages of Chapter 4.

 

Tuesday, APril 9, 2019: Students completed a prose analysis timed essay in class.  As homework, they are to read Part One, Chapter 5 of The Stranger.

 

Wednesday, APril 10, 2019:  Students received questions over The Stranger, Part One, Chapters 1-6, and Part Two, Chapter 1.  Students are to answer all questions and have the novel read through Part Two, Chapter 1 by the start of class tomorrow. That is when the answers to all questions will be due.

 

Thursday, APril 11, 2019:  Students turned in their answers to questions over The Stranger and then completed a three-part round of AP exam multiple-choice question practice.  As homework, students are to review, re-read, or catch up on reading The Stranger.

 

Friday, APril 12, 2019:  Students reviewed their performance on the multiple-choice work from yesterday and then discussed the middle chapters of The Stranger.  As homework, students are to review Part One, Chapter 6 and Part Two, Chapter 1, and then read Part Two, Chapter 2.

 

Monday, APril 15, 2019:  Students reviewed steps to building literary analysis and then looked over their essays from the last poetry analysis timed writing.  Students then began reading today's assignment.  As homework, students are to read all of Part Two, Chapter 3 from The Stranger.

 

Tuesday, APril 16, 2019:  Students completed a timed poetry analysis writing task in class.  As homework, students are to read Part Two, Chapter 4 of The Stranger.

 

Wednesday, APril 17, 2019:  The teacher reviewed some strategies and methods for working successfully through multiple-choice questions for the AP Lit. Exam, and students practiced a poem with questions, guided by the teacher.  Students then began reading Part Two, Chapter 5 of The Stranger.  As homework, students need to finish reading the final chapter of the novel.

 

Thursday, APril 18, 2019:  Students completed a multi-passage practice multiple-choice task that took up the majority of class time.  The only homework over the long weekend is for any student who needs to complete his/her reading of The Stranger. That should be fully read by next Tuesday.

 

Tuesday, APril 23, 2019:  Students in morning classes reported to the gymnasium for AP exam pre-administration work.  Afternoon classes briefly discussed the timed writing that will take place in class tomorrow.

 

Wednesday APril 24, 2019:  Students completed a prose analysis timed essay task during class.  As homework, students need to review the final four chapters of The Stranger as preparation for classwork tomorrow.

 

Thursday, APril 25, 2019:  Students completed two surveys for the principal and counseling department. Students also met with their counselors for brief, individual visits. Students received copies of study questions for the final chapters of The Stranger.  This work is due tomorrow.
